Have questions about moving? Here at Elliott, we have the answers.
The very nature of household furniture and effects, with the many varying shapes and sizes, provides INHERENT RISKS which, despite the care and attention devoted by our people to the handling of our customer’s belongings, cannot be entirely eliminated. There is not one removal organisation in the world that has found a successful formula for the elimination of the risk of damage.
Elliott is proud of the reputation we have established for excellence of service but, even we have to admit that damage does sometimes occur. Because of this, it is standard practice for removal contractors, not only in South Africa but in most countries, to accept nominal liability for damage or loss and to offer the facility of All-Risk Insurance protection at an additional charge.
Many estates and complexes have strict rules and regulations regarding the weight and size of vehicles allowed entry. Whilst certain trucks may be allowed to enter, larger-size vehicles used for furniture moving may not be allowed due to their weight and size, necessitating the use of a smaller vehicle to transport your belongings between your residence and our vehicle outside the estate.
Elliott offers a complimentary unpacking service on delivery, where all Elliott cartons and furniture are unpacked and placed into the corresponding rooms of your new residence from which they were packed and loaded. Carton contents will be unpacked onto the nearest counter or flat-top surface in the corresponding room.
Yes, you can use your own boxes. However, most standard boxes are not designed for moving household items and may not be strong enough to protect your belongings safely.
At Elliott, we use double-walled corrugated boxes, which provide superior strength and durability to safeguard your goods during transit. We also offer a range of specially designed cartons in various sizes to ensure each item in your home is securely packed and well-protected.
While moving can be costly, it is important to consider the risks of choosing a cheaper, unprofessional service. Inexperienced movers may lack the skills and proper equipment to handle fragile or valuable items, increasing the risk of damage. Poor packing, improper loading, and lack of insurance coverage can result in costly losses that outweigh the initial savings. Investing in a professional moving company ensures your belongings are transported safely, securely, and with the care they deserve.
Several factors influence the cost of a professional move, including:
Expertise and Labour – Professional movers bring experience, skill, and manpower to handle your move efficiently and safely.
Fleet Maintenance and Transport Costs – Moving companies maintain a fleet of vehicles, with expenses like fuel, tolls, and upkeep factored into the cost.
Specialised Packing Materials – High-quality packing materials, including custom cartons, bubble wrap, and acid-free paper, help protect fragile and valuable items.
Storage Solutions – If your new home is not immediately available, storage options may be required, adding to the overall cost.
Custom Crating – Some items, such as pianos or artworks, need specialised wooden crates for added protection.
Furniture Disassembly and Reassembly – Certain furniture pieces may need to be taken apart and reassembled at your new home.
Distance and Location – Moving costs vary based on the distance traveled, with rural areas often requiring longer travel times.
Seasonal Demand – Prices fluctuate depending on peak moving seasons, with higher demand leading to increased costs.
Home Size and Packing Requirements – No two homes are the same, and movers consider the amount of furniture, belongings, and packing complexity when determining costs.
Insurance Coverage – Protecting your belongings with moving insurance is an additional factor in pricing.
