Understand Namibia’s Climate before You Request Moving Quotes

You know the old saying of “the grass is always greener on the other side” is not true when it comes to Namibia. It is a dry, semi-desert country, but it is beautiful and often the dream relocation destination for South Africans and expats from elsewhere. Of course, in many instances, people need moving quotes to Namibia, not so much because they intend to permanently relocate to the country with its majestic sand dunes and unusual natural formations, but because they have entered into job contracts that perhaps span six months or two years.

Regardless the reason for relocation, we are here to assist with every part of the move and make requesting moving quotes as easy as possible. Consider the climate of Namibia as a start. Annual flooding in the northern part of Namibia can be expected as rainwater from neighbouring Angola runs into Namibia. Droughts are common and the country most recently experienced a drought that lasted for three years.

The country has two deserts. The one is the Namib and stretches along the coastline with a width ranging from 90 to several hundred kilometres. Two well-known tourist destinations in the Namib Desert include the Kaokoveld and Skeleton Coast. The second desert is a semi-desert and is known as the Kalahari Desert. Stable rainfall is experienced during the year, leading to the growth of a wide variety of succulent species. The region also has good grazing areas.

The temperature range is relatively small at the coast, but the range increases at the inland towns. On average, Windhoek’s winter temperatures range from 6 to 21 °C, but during the summer months, temperatures range from 20 to 31 °C. At the coast, the winter temperature range is 13 to 19 °C. However, if you plan to move to the Kalahari Desert region, you can expect extreme temperatures. The summer months are exceptionally hot, with temperatures often exceeding 43 °C and winter mornings can be as cold as 0 °C.

The winter season is from June to August and is very dry. The summer season runs from December to February. The highest rainfall periods are from February to April and September to November, with the latter the peak rainy season. However, don’t expect days of soft drizzling rains. Rain either pours down during a heavy storm, or short bursts of rain are experienced.
